Representing Employers

On the other hand, federal law prohibits your employer from firing you if your employer is motivated by your race, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability status or need to take FMLA leave.  There are few other protected categories, but these are the biggies.  The "employment-at- will" doctrine under Mississippi law means that you can be fired for a good reason, a bad reason, or no reason.

Mississippi has a narrow exception to the employment-at-will doctrine that provides you cannot be fired for refusing to participate in criminal activity or reporting criminal activity.

We help employers understand and comply with their myriad obligations under federal, state, and local employment laws.  Among our services, we prepare/review employment contracts, severance agreements, employee handbooks, and other work-related documents.  We provide counseling and advice regarding employee discipline and termination issues.

The law firm of Mike Farrell, PLLC represents clients across Mississippi who have victimized by unlawful treatment in the workplace.

We focus on all aspects of employment law including claims for overtime, wrongful termination, retaliation, FMLA claims and all other types of employment law issues.

If you have been fired or mistreated on the job, call us for a free phone consultation.  The law does not provide a remedy for every unfair situation that you might experience on your job.  You need to know if you have a claim that can stand up in court.

Not every lawyer can give you an answer over the phone, but with over 40 years of handling employment cases, Mike Farrell can give you a quick answer about whether you have a viable  legal claim.  If you have a good case, then you can go forward with a lawsuit.  if you do not have a case that will stand up in court, then you need to hear that from a lawyer experienced in employment matters so you can accept your situation, move on or get a second opinion.  Only an experienced attorney can do that in a single phone call.

Most lawyers do not handle employment cases for a good reason.  Such cases have many pitfalls for the inexperienced or unwary.  Mike Farrell is one of a handful of lawyers in Mississippi who represent employees in employment related cases on a regular basis.

In employment law, experience counts - a lot.  If you file a suit, your former employer will hire a law firm with a lot of experience in employment law.  You need to level the playing field with any experienced, aggressive attorney.  Mike Farrell has handled over hundreds of cases in his career.

We also make it easy for you by handling your case on a contingency basis.  That means you do not pay any legal fee unless we obtain a settlement or judgment for you.  In other words, we share the risk with you.  If I take your case, I cannot guarantee any results.  I do promise that I will work extremely hard to achieve the best possible results.
